How to Sell an Instagram Account and Prove Your Stats

Every buyer has been burned by edited screenshots. The fastest way to a fair price is numbers they don't have to take on trust.

Short answer

Prepare the account (public professional account, clean history, recovery email you can hand over), then prove its value with a verified report of your Instagram Insights instead of screenshots: followers, 30-day reach and views, and audience by country, age and gender. Share the report link in your listing, sell through escrow, and hand over the original email and two-factor settings only once payment is secured. Be aware that Instagram's terms prohibit buying and selling accounts.

Why sellers lose money on unverified numbers

A buyer looking at your listing has no way to tell your screenshots from a faked set. So they do the rational thing: assume some of it is inflated, offer less, and ask for more checks. Good accounts end up priced like average ones, and deals drag on or fall through.

A verified report changes the conversation. The buyer sees your real reach, views and audience, taken straight from Instagram, and can check that nobody edited them. The negotiation moves from “are these numbers real?” to “what is this audience worth to me?”, which is where a strong account wins.

Step by step

  1. 1

Switch to a public professional account

Instagram only shows Insights for public creator or business accounts. Buyers also expect it. Switching is free and takes a minute in Settings.
  2. 2

    Clean up the account

Remove connected apps you no longer use, unlink personal Facebook Pages, and check that the email and phone number on the account are ones you can hand over or change. Note the original email the account was created with; serious buyers will ask for it.
  3. 3

    Verify your stats

Run a verification on AudienceCheck. You sign in to Instagram on your own device and Vouch produces a cryptographic proof of your Insights. Your password is never shared with us or with the buyer. You get a report link you can include in your listing.
  4. 4

    Write an honest listing

State the niche, the audience countries, any past monetization, and anything a buyer would find out anyway: username changes, a past growth campaign, periods of inactivity. Surprises during due diligence kill more deals than the facts themselves.
  5. 5

Offer a fresh verification to serious buyers

A report shows the numbers at the moment it was created. When a buyer is ready to pay, offer to verify again through a link they send you. It takes a few minutes and removes the last doubt.
  6. 6

    Sell through escrow

Use a marketplace or escrow service that holds the buyer's payment until the account has been transferred. Never hand over login details before the payment is secured.

What buyers look at in a report

Knowing this in advance helps you present the account well.

  • Reach compared with followers. Buyers compare accounts reached in the last 30 days with the follower count. A healthy ratio signals a live audience.
  • Audience location. Many buyers want audiences in specific markets. Your country breakdown decides who your account is worth most to, so aim your listing at them.
  • Followers versus non-followers. A high share of views from non-followers shows content that travels beyond the existing audience.
  • Recent growth. New followers over the last 30 days show whether the account is growing, flat or declining.

Handing over the account

Agree on the handover steps before payment so nothing is improvised:

  1. The buyer pays into escrow.
  2. You change the account email and phone number to the buyer's, or hand over the original email account.
  3. You remove your two-factor method and the buyer adds theirs.
  4. The buyer changes the password and logs out other sessions.
  5. The buyer confirms, and escrow releases the payment.

Keep a copy of your verified report. If the buyer later disputes what was sold, it records the account's numbers at the time of sale.

The platform risk is real

Instagram's Terms of Use say users can't attempt to buy, sell or transfer any aspect of their account, including the username. Accounts that change hands can be restricted or disabled. Make sure both you and the buyer understand this before agreeing to a sale.

Common questions

Is the verification free?

Yes, Instagram account verification is free. TikTok, X, YouTube and Twitch need a paid credit pack.

Will the buyer see my password or messages?

No. The proof contains only the statistics being verified, such as followers, reach and audience breakdowns.

My account has under 100 followers. Can I verify it?

Instagram doesn't provide audience demographics for very small accounts, so the report needs more than 100 followers to be complete.
